Alexandra Parker is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, researching the role of film in shaping urban representation and practice. She teaches first year courses in architecture and planning. She serves on the Architects’ Collective board, organizing the Architect Africa Film Festival and on the board of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation. She has presented and published on the relationship between the city and film.
As a sessional lecturer I have compiled and written course outlines, readings, and project briefs; prepared and delivered lectures; prepared and facilitated tutorials; prepared and marked assignment briefs and assignments; prepared and marked examinations. I have also taken students on several field trips managing 50+ students over a few days and making all the logistical arrangements. In addition, I have contributed in other areas of the school – hosting and presenting several lectures; and preparing several presentations and exercises for first year students as part of their orientation week.
The Architects’ Collective is a non-profit organization that promotes the built environment through cultural activities such as film festivals and exhibitions. As the co-ordinator and administrator I sourced films and exhibition content; co-curated film festival and exhibition content; designed and distributed publicity material including posters and programmes; liaised with service providers across the country; arranged and managed launch events; managed and updated publicity and online media content.
