Journalist: Huisgenoot, YOU & DRUM |
Media24 Limited
2009 - 2010
Broadcast Media, Multimedia and Film
I wrote a weekly DPS on entrepreneurs in South African townships, profiling success stories, sourcing expert advice to offer business ideas that came from DRUM readers across Southern Africa and organised photo shoots for our decor pages on easy-to-make articles with which aspiring entrepreneurs could generate an income from. The series was called DRUM Entrepreneurs and was started in February 2010 as part of the new "Better Life" section in the magazine.
I assisted the managing editor of Huisgenoot, YOU and DRUM with supplements across these titles - from meeting with clients and agencies to generating and sourcing the content.
Producing lively, accurate and readable advertorials and promotional copy I also generated ideas for articles in line with each title's formula and client's wishes.
I also wrote and managed each magazine's educational pages liaising closely with the design team to offer insightful and thought-provoking content for school kids.
Digital Manager: Family Magazines |
Media24 Limited
2009 - 2009
Broadcast Media, Multimedia and Film
I worked within the Media24 Family Magazines business unit, publishers of Huisgenoot, YOU, DRUM, TVPlus, Huisgenoot-Pols, You-Pulse, Huisgenoot-Tempo and Kuier. My main responsibility was to assist the publisher with driving strategic objectives of the business unit through the development of digital marketing, online brand extensions and other multimedia platforms.
Daily analysis and interpretation of world and local trends in different media genres, communicating with editors, directors and senior management while liaising with different business units in the Naspers Group as well as in the open market to ensure effective use of available skills and applications and to negotiate agreements formed part of my responsibilities. Furthermore I liaised with technical, creative and logistical teams and departments to ensure the effective and timely development of multimedia platforms.
During my time with Family Magazines I created, managed and maintained Facebook pages, Twitter and YouTube accounts for the respective magazines, assisted in relaunching our two largest magazines' websites and created two additional mobile WAP sites for two of our smaller brands.
