Despite having received the first prize in the National Science Olympiad in his final year at school, Bertie du Plessis went on to study literature and theology at the Universities of Stellenbosch and Tuebingen (Germany). He has since lectured in six different disciplines at South African tertiary institutions.

He founded MindPilot (Pty) Ltd Strategic Positioning in 1995. Reporting directly to the CEO, he has, over the past decade executed a wide variety of special projects for the Naspers / MIH Group. His client list also includes various other JSE listed companies, African Bank, BHP Billiton Sanlam, Standard Bank and Sasol, as well as numerous SMEs.
