Amazon Development Centre South Africa is looking for passionate software developers to join us and help to solve a challenging set of problems in a space packed full of opportunities.
 
AWS (Amazon Web Services) provides Amazon's developer customers with access to in-the-cloud infrastructure services based on Amazon's own back-end technology platform, which developers can use to enable virtually any type of business.
 
The Cape Town based Development Center plays a key role in building the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). EC2 is the web service that is pioneering cloud computing by providing resizable compute capacity in the cloud.
 
The advertised position is within the team responsible for building and operating the routing and orchestration logic of the customer-facing EC2 APIs. Our team plays a key role in the delivery of almost all EC2 features, offering our engineers great exposure to many projects and teams within AWS.
 
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the great opportunity that Amazon EC2 presents and about web services in general.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
 
8+ years of industry experience in a software development environment, including internships
Experience in any of Ruby, Perl, Java, Scala, C/C++ or C#
Expertise in delivering high-quality, innovative applications
Strong customer focus
Strong computer science fundamentals
Strong analytical skills with excellent problem solving abilities
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
BS/MS/PhD in computer science or equivalent
Experience with Linux and networking development
Knowledge of system performance methodologies along with hands on empirical monitoring
Strong desire to build, a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
Excellent written communication and verbal agility
Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment
Team Lead experience
