Joost van der Westhuizen was best known for being captain of the Vodacom Blue Bulls Super 12 in 2002 and 2003. He had a stint as television interviewer on kykNET, co-presenting with his ex-wife Amor. In July 2004 he joined Supersport as a commentator until his contract ended in 2009. He was also part of SA Sevens RWC team in 1993 and 1997. Van der Westhuizen is author of the book "Spieelbeeld" (Man in the Mirror).
