Mangwashi Phiyega, best known as Riah, was appointed National Police Commissioner in June 2012. She Previously was Group Executive of ABSA Bank LTD. She was Group Executive of Transnet Limited. She was an Executive at the National Ports Authority of South Africa. She also was Director for Development at National Child Welfare. She served as Deputy Chairperson for the Public Office Bearers Commission. She led and chaired the Presidential State Owned Enterprises Review Committee. On 14 October 2015 Phiyega was suspended by the President, following a recommendation of the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the deaths of protesting miners in Marikana in 2012.
