Michael Frederick Horn

South African Explorer and Athlete


Born 16-07-1966 in Johannesburg South Africa

Mike Horn is a South African high altitude climber and Arctic explorer. He became famous in 2000 after completing a solo journey around the equator without motor transport. Horn then completed a solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle in 2004 - it took him two years and three months. Norwegian explorer Børge Ousland and Horn became the first men to travel without dog or motorised transport to the North Pole during permanent darkness, in 2006. In 2007 he was elected a member of the exclusive Laureus World Sports Academy, in recognition of his ground-breaking achievements.
