We’re an exciting new project in SHAWCO which uses drama, storytelling, songs and games to make literacy come alive for young children. Our lessons are bi-lingual (in English and Xhosa), and are run by volunteers from both UCT and Nyanga.
We currently run on a Wednesday from 14:30 to 16:30, at Walter Teka Primary School in Nyanga.
Our sister projects – the Vulindlela Reading Club and the Masakhe Reading Club – both run on a Saturday. Vulindlela runs at St. Louis Primary School in Langa, and Masakhe runs at the SHAWCO centre in Nyanga. Both projects run from 10:00 – 12:00.
We’re going to use this blog to let you know what we’re thinking, what we’ve thought, what we’ve read and what we’re doing to do next.
Whatever skills you possess, we want you to get involved.
