Pieter-Dirk Uys

South African Satirist


Born 28-09-1945

Pieter-Dirk Uys is a South African Satirist. His recent work focuses on current politics and Aids education. He has written and performed 18 plays and over 30 revues and one-man shows throughout South Africa.
As an anti-apartheid activist, he has campaigned through satire and is renowned for his alter-ego character, Mrs Evita Bezuidenhout. He has worked in theatre since 1973 and was closely associated with Space Theatre in Cape Town and the Market Theatre in Johannesburg until 1980's.
He was closely associated with both the Space Theatre in Cape Town and Johannesburg's Market Theatre during the 1970s and 1980s, he has written and performed 20 plays and over 30 revues and one-man shows throughout South Africa and abroad.
