Rick Menell has had a 35 year career in the mining industry, heading Anglovaal Mining and Teal Exploration & Mining up to 2008. He has previously served as President of the South African Chamber of Mines, as Chairman of the South African Tourism Board and on numerous boards as director, Deputy Chair or Chairman including Harmony Gold, Bateman Engineering, ARM, Avgold, Associated Manganese, Standard Bank Group, Mutual & Federal Insurance, Telkom SA and the Business Trust. He is currently a Non Executive Director of Gold Fields Limited, Sibanye Gold Limited, Rockwell Diamonds Inc and Weir Group plc. He is also Chairman-South Africa and Senior Advisor to Credit Suisse and a Council Member of Business Leadership South Africa. Recently appointed a Trustee of Brand South Africa in the Presidency. In the non-profit area, Rick is currently founding co-Chairman of City Year South Africa Youth Service Organisation, Chairman of the Tourism Enterprise Partnership, Chairman of the Carrick Foundation and Chair of the Palaeontological Scientific Trust. He is a director of the Claude Leon Foundation and the National Business Initiative. He is one of the convenors of the Dinokeng Scenario Project, and was for 12 years a Governor in the mining industry group of the World Economic Forum.
