Tshepo Teele

Nickname: 'Master'

Agric researcher, Scholar and Anthropologist

Currently resides in: Free State, South Africa

Born in Botshabelo South Africa

Agriculturist dedicated to teaching and learning agriculture as well as executing Animal sciences research with special focus to reproduction and genetic characterization and differentiation of southern African indigenous pigs (Sus scrofa). I am a research orientated scholar with special interest on agricultural sciences, animal reproduction physiology and animal genetics, I have conducted scientific research using applied assisted reproduction technology (biotechnologies) in pigs to understand their influence on attempts to improve fertility in farm animals used in restricted confinement in an animal production commercial setting. I am currently conducting scientific research to develop models to improve and investigating the fertility rates on Southern African indigenous breeds in their natural traditional conditions for a successful conservation, improvement and breeding programme through genetic characterisation and use of sexual preparation procedures and diurnal periods, the impact of this study is that it will give a baseline as first step to improvement of indigenous breeds which are side-lined due to colonial agricultural extension strategies that introduced highly productive and improved exotic breeds and faces total wipe-out due to inbreeding and cross-bred with exotic breeds. These indigenous breeds are hardy breeds and have went through environmental and genetic adaptation to adapt to harsh conditions of the Southern African regions
