Former Kaizer Chiefs striker says only Hunt can set Amakhosi right

Common sense would appear to dictate that Kaizer Chiefs best option to fill their coaching void is Gavin Hunt.

Hunt’s combination of local knowledge and technical expertise make Hunt the apparent choice for Kaizer Chiefs provided they can agree on terms with the former Bidvest Wits trainer.

McGregor backs Hunt for Kaizer Chiefs job

Former Chiefs striker Shane McGregor has gone as far as to say that only Hunt can end the club’s long wait for silverware.

McGregor feels that the transfer ban would make things far too difficult for an overseas coach and that Hunt would be the best man to whip the existing squad into shape.

Hunt has won the league with unfashionable Wits and SuperSport United achieving what the Soweto Giants have been unable to do in the last five seasons, beating Mamelodi Sundowns in the league in the 2016/17 season.

Hunt will bring silverware to Naturena

McGregor says if Chiefs want to win trophies, then Hunt is their man.

“Well it’s hard hey, because if you bring a foreign coach it will take too long and with the ban on buying players, it’s difficult for whoever comes in,” McGregor told KickOff.com.

“But for me, you either going to say that you are going to get someone who plays with flair or are we going to look for a coach who’s going to win something for us.

“I don’t know the [potential new coach] list yet but speaking of Gavin Hunt, for me if they wanna win something he’s the ideal guy because he gets the best out of players.

“The only thing is, you are not going to do it with the flair or the Chiefs way [if Hunt is appointed] if you wanna call it that. So you are going to look at what’s good and what’s not good.

“I think he’s the best coach available at the moment. He knows how to win; he’s won trophies; he knows how to do it. If you want to win something he’s the right guy, he gets the best out of players.

“And unfortunately Chiefs have got some mediocre players so that is the big problem with them you know. So they need to relook at that. Who is getting the players in, how are they getting the players? They need to relook at that.”

Kaizer Chiefs players are not good enough

McGregor doesn’t believe the current squad are championship-winning standard.

“They don’t have the players, they don’t have quality,” McGregor added.

“And that’s the problem. You can have the best coach in the world, but if you don’t have the quality it’s gonna make it difficult you know.”
