Kaizer Chiefs must make the most of their good fortune

Former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart Robert Nauseb says the club need to make the most of their ‘second chance’ to clinch the PSL title.

Kaizer Chiefs will be crowned champions if they win their two remaining games, but that is only the case because Sundowns failed to pick up any points against Baroka FC.

Kaizer Chiefs must make the most of their good fortune

Nauseb feels that Chiefs might have got lucky with the other result but were unfortunate not to score first against Bidvest Wits.

“We’ve been given another chance now we have to use it,” Nauseb told Chiefs official website.

Nauseb also believes that the loss of Daniel Akpeyi to a head injury in the second half played its part in Chiefs defeat over the weekend.

“These kinds of things always affect a team mentally, especially the defenders. It’s never easy to see your teammate having to leave the field groggy. You start feeling a bit nervous,” he adds.

“That does, of course, not reflect negatively on the qualities of Bruce Bvuma, who replaced the Nigerian international. He is a very promising young keeper. He is quality and seems to have a bright future ahead of him.”

Senior players need to stand up

The former Namibia international says that the senior players need to stand up in this situation and believes criticism of the coach is baseless.

“We lost, Sundowns lost… it promises to be an exciting week with two more games to go to decide who will win the league title,” the Namibian says.

“The senior players need to take responsibility and talk with the team to make clear what is at stake,” Nauseb suggests, “because a coach can only do so much.”

Kaizer Chiefs have a gem in Frosler

Nauseb was delighted with the form of wide player Reeve Frosler, he feels the youngster was unlucky not to win a penalty after being brought down in the box against Wits.

“That boy is the most versatile player I have seen in a while, he can play on the left, on the right – he is impressing me,” he said.

“That was a clear-cut penalty. However, at the end of the day, the referee’s decision is final.”

The stadium may be empty when Kaizer Chiefs face Chippa United but Nauseb reminded the players that they are playing for the Amakhosi faithful.

“The Chippa game is a six-pointer,” Nauseb concludes. “The pressure at the moment is on Sundowns, although, of course, we have to fight and win our own battles.”
