PSL transfer news: Wits trio on Supersport United’s radar

Supersport United chief executive Stan Matthews has identified three players from Bidvest Wits he feels could strengthen the midfield at the Tshwane outfit.

Many big names from the Joburg club are currently up for grabs, following the sale of the club’s PSL status.

Wits trio on United’s radar

The Citizen reports that Matsatsansa are looking to inject some experience to their youthful midfield, currently occupied by the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule and Jamie Webber.

Matthews has tipped the Wits trio of Cole Alexander, Thabang Monare and Pathutshedzo Nange as potential transfers to fill the gap left by former skipper Dean Furman.

“I want to try and strengthen in midfield. If you look at the team, we have (Onismor) Bhasera, Bongani Khumalo, Clayton Daniels. Up front, we have Bradley Grobler and (Iqraam) Rayners and (Thamsanqa) Gabuza. But in midfield we have Jessie Don, Jamie Webber, Sipho Mbule, Teboho Mokoena, they are all 22 or 23 years old. We need a bit more experience. “Nange, Monare, or Alexander, one of those three would be interesting to us.”

Goalkeeping department strengthened

United finished the recently-concluded season with the MTN8 title, as well as a fifth-place finish in the league standings.

Central to their success was goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who topped the clean sheet charts in the league.

The club has brought on a reinforcement between the posts in the form of George Chigova, who joined from relegated Polokwane City.

“We have signed him (Chigova) on a two-year deal, he has been with us before and is an experienced ‘keeper’,” Matthews told the publication . “Ronwen (Williams) is the number one George knows what he is competing against and it was important to have someone with his experience. If Ronwen is out injured we will need someone to step out. Boalefa Pule, SuperSport’s other goalkeeper, is also still with the club.”
