CAPE TOWN – The case against a man implicated in the murder of a top detective has been postponed until 5 October.

Zane Killian was arrested this week in Gauteng and brought to Cape Town where he’s been charged.

He appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court earlier on Friday, exactly a week after Charl Kinnear, a lieutenant-colonel attached to the anti-gang unit, was gunned down outside his home.

Killian’s first court appearance was brief.

The court was filled with armed police officers as the accused was brought into the dock handcuffed wearing a black hooded top.

There were strict rules.

Journalists had to switch off phones and produce media cards before being allowed entry for security reasons.

Killian faces three charges, murder, conspiracy to commit murder and for the illegal interception of communication.

The State alleges that between March and 18 September, the accused unlawfully and intentionally intercepted Kinnear’s cell phones.

He’s being held at the Bellville police station and will appear in court again on 5 October.
