PSL transfer news: Cape Town City set for double swoop

Cape Town City have reportedly lined up a replacement for departing striker Kermit Erasmus as the club prepares for the 2020/21 PSL season.

City áre believed to be close to signing Ghanaian striker Prince Opoku Agyemang from Ghana Premier League outfit Medeama SC.

Ghanaian striker bound for the PSL

The hitman struck 11 goals in just 14 Ghana Premier League matches and has been on the radar for Cape Town City for some time.

City need a proven goalscorer after the departure of their main man Erasmus for Mamelodi Sundowns. Erasmus scored ten goals in 19 PSL matches last season, netting a quarter of the club’s total strikes.

Ghanaian football media have been linking Agyemang to a move to Cape Town City since April this year. The 28-year-old remains uncapped at international level but has enjoyed a spell with the Black Stars B side.

Agyemang was born in Kumasi and grew up in Asokwa, a town in under the jurisdiction of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in the Ashanti region in Southern Ghana.

The striker took his first steps in football as an unregistered player for the local club Masso FC in Asokwa and later played in the regional colts division.

After showing great promise as a striker he was signed by Asante Kotoko to their youth team in 2005.

Agyemang left Kotoko to join Sekondi Eleven Wise in the 2008/09. He scored a total of 12 goals in 16 appearances and helped the club to secure promotion to the Ghana Premier League.

Heart of Lions then acquired the striker and deployed him as a left-winger in the 2010/11 Ghana Premier League season where he netted 4 goals in 23 games. Following his spell at Heart of Lions the marksman left to join Bekwai-based New Edubiase United in 2016.

During his spell at the club Agyemang scored a total of 42 goals in 52 games compelling Medeama FC to sign him after he netted 8 times in 10 games in the 2019 Ghanaian Premier League.

It was reported in July that he had agreed to join Cape Town City on loan but he would not join the club in the bio-bubble and his signing was never confirmed.

Cape Town City in for double swoop

Zambian winger Charles Zulu has also been linked with a move to Cape Town City who will want to make progress after a sixth-place finish in the 2019/20 season.

Cape Town City get back into action with an MTN8 Quarterfinal clash against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on 18 October. PSL action kicks off the following week.
