Former Orlando Pirates head coach Rhulani Mokwena insists that his loyalty lies with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mokwena has been linked with a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly to link up with former boss Pitso Mosimane.

The Sundowns assistant coach has refuted claims that he has travelled to Egypt for talks with the club.

“I am loyal and am staying at Mamelodi Sundowns,” Mokwena stated on social media.

“I have received questions from the media and have also seen statements on social media stating that I will be joining Al Ahlyas assistant coach.

“I thought it necessary to state categorically that I am loyal to Mamelodi Sundowns and am staying at Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I am extremely happy at the club. I am hounded and feel an enormous sense of pride to be back and would like to express my deep commitment and loyalty to the club, the president, the board and our supports, the yellow nation. Serving you brings me huge amount of motivation and the spirit we have within us is what brings me a sense of belonging.

“The President of Mamelodi Sundowns, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has supported and has always believed in me and I am thankful for the trust and confidence that he has consistently shown in me.”

Mosimane will be assisted by Egyptian coach Sami Komsan who served as the number two to previous coach René Weiler.

Sundowns have place Manqoba Mngqithi in charge of the team in the interim but could back the experienced coach to make the step up and continue the good work of Mosimane.

Mokwena rejoined Mamelodi Sundowns as an assistant coach after his disappointing term as head coach of Orlando Pirates at the turn of the year. He briefly coached Chippa United on loan from Sundowns during this season but returned to the Brazilians bench for the bio-bubble stint.

The former Sea Robbers coach is all set to operate as Mngqithi’s right-hand man.

Mosimane has recruited Sudowns performance analyst Musi Matlaba as well as Fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga for his new technical team in Cairo.

Rangoaga and Matlaba have been at Sundowns for many years and their departure sparked rumours that Mokwena would follow.
