Thabo Matlaba completes move to Moroka Swallows

Former Orlando Pirates skipper Thabo Matlaba has joined his old club’s oldest rivals, Moroka Swallows.

Following his departure from the Buccaneers in 2019, the 32-year-old joined Black Leopards, where he even donned the captain’s armband.

The stint in Limpopo has proven to be a rather short one, as he has moved back to Soweto, signing Dube Birds ahead of their return to the top flight.

The club confirmed his arrival via their Twitter account on Saturday.

During his brief stint at Leopards, Matlaba was an ever-present force, appearing in all but four of their 330 league encounters.

The former Buc is yet another former Pirates player in Swallows roster, after the club brought in Musa Nyatama late last month.

The duo are two of the many new additions made by the club during the transfer window.

Highly-rated winger Moeketsi Makhanya was one of the first players unveiled by Swallows, who signed more attacking midfielders in Ruzaigh Gamaldien and Thabo Mosadi, joining from Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town, respectively.

The club has also acquired the services of veteran defender Wandisile Letlabika from Bloemfontein Celtic.

They have also kept loanees from last season in Given Thibedi, Ayanda Rorwana, Itumeleng Shopane and Sizwe Twala, who all return for a season-long loan deal.

Swallows finished first in the first division to secure a spot in the top flight for the first time since suffering relegation in 2015.
