Kaizer Chiefs eager to ‘fight’ for victory against Swallows

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo believes a maximum-point haul against rivals Moroka Swallows will give the team a lot of confidence going forward.

In four matches since the season began, Amakhosi have managed just five points, with a single victory to show for their efforts.

Kaizer Chiefs target three points

Having found their goal-scoring boots in a 2-2 draw against Golden Arrows over the weekend – where Leonardo Castro became the first Amakhosi player to enter the scoresheet in the league this season – they are looking to go one better in the Soweto Derby on Tuesday night.

Ngcobo says the team is going to fight for a win against the Dube Birds, who are still unbeaten on their return to the top flight.

“For us, it is important to get three points so that we gain confidence and belief moving forward,” he is quoted in the official Kaizer Chiefs website.

“We are up against a strong team that has not lost this season. We have to go there and fight for a win.”

Swallows loom large

Swallows are second on the standings, helped along by their impressive defence which has seen them concede just once.

With the likes of Ruzaigh Gamaldien, Lebogang Mokoena and Moeketsi Makhanya, the Birds are not shot of attacking threats either.

“We expect them to come out and attack,” Ngcobo adds.

“We know they are also strong at the back. They have conceded one goal this season and if we apply ourselves well, we will be able to get the win. I am confident of that.”

While the result was disappointing, the draw against Arrows saw a few Chiefs players displaying a return to form, with both Castro and Khama Billiat among the standout players on the day.

Ngcobo has also noted the encouraging signs.

“We were supposed to win the game, but we played a draw, we might not have been clinical enough in front of goal, but these are things we can improve on. I know we will.”
