According to a report, WP Rugby will have to cover at least 30% of the cost of the 168 private suites currently being built at their new home, the Cape Town Stadium.

WP Rugby began marketing the suites last week when their invited fans to ‘live the suite life’ although no cost was mentioned.

In remains to be seen in this day and age of Covid-19 who will show interest in the 168 suites.

‘As part of the agreement with WP, the city agreed to build the suites,’ Cape Town deputy mayor Ian Neilson told Rapport newspaper.

‘The contract, to the value of R250 million, is underway. The suites must be completed by early 2021.’

That would men WP Rugby will have to repay the city at least R75 million of this amount, with interest, over a 25-year period.

The Stormers have played their final ever match at Newlands, while Western Province will wrap up their stay at the ground when the Currie Cup concludes in mid-January 2021.

The Cape Town Stadium will host two matches during the British & Irish Lions’ tour in July-August 2021 – assuming of course it goes ahead during that period, or at all – against the Stormers and the second Test between the two sides.
