Orlando Pirates vs Supersport United: PSL preview and kick-off time

The evening fixture between Orlando Pirates and Supersport United is without a doubt the pick of the weekend’s PSL action, as the two former league champions battle it out for three points at Orlando Stadium.

The two Gauteng giants were engaged in a thrilling contest at Ellis Park in August, and could serve up more fireworks in Soweto this Saturday.

Orlando Pirates vs Supersport United: PSL match preview

The match comes soon after the end of the international break, which could have an effect on either side’s momentum, particularly that of the hosts, who collected three wins on the bounce across competitions prior to the hiatus.

For Matsatsansa, the trip to Orlando East presents an opportunity to start over, having been knocked out of cup competition in their most recent fixture.

In the PSL, however, Kaitano Tembo’s men tasted victory in their last outing, as they claimed maximum points against Stellenbosch to make it two for the season.

Despite displaying better recent form, the Buccaneers are lower on the table, sitting sixth – two places below their opponents – having only just claimed one league win.

Head-to-head results

Goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands was the hero when these two sides last met, pulling off some great saves include two from the penalty spot as Orlando Pirates snuck through as 2-1 victors.

The result came just after the Buccaneers had fallen on the wrong end of a 3-0 drubbing in the reverse fixture.

Overall, United have claimed 14 wins in matches between these two sides, with the Buccaneers winning nine, while the other eight have ended without a winner being decided.

Kick-off time and TV channel

The match between Orlando Pirates and Supersport United will kick off at 18:00 (SAST) and will be televised live on Supersport’s Premier Soccer League channel (202) as well as SABC.
