Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau responded to talk surrounding a possible English Premier League (EPL) debut following his man-of-the-match performance against Sao Tome e Principe on Friday.

It has been reported that his club, Brighton and Hove Albion are looking to recall him from his loan spell at Anderlecht in the hopes that Brexit rules will mean the easing of work permit regulations.

Percy Tau on possible EPL move

Quizzed on this in a post-match press conference, Tau said he was unaware of a move to the EPL.

“I think I’ve been doing well, I’ve been trying my best every time,” he said. “For sure I’ve been on loan for three years. I think there’s been progress in my game. I went to Brugge and won the league so I don’t see issues with that. “I’ve always said there have been issues that were forcing me out, it was never about talent or belief, so we will have to see when it does happen. But I have to keep on working hard.”

Life in Belgium

Tau is on his third loan spell in Belgium since his move to Brighton from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018.

In the country, he represented two clubs before linking up with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht.

The 26-year-old’s first season in Belgium yielded a personal accolade as he was named the second division’s player of the season after netting 13 goals and as many assists.

His next loan stint was at Club Brugge, where he made his Uefa Champions League and Europa debuts, turning out against the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Tau helped Brugge to a league title earlier in the year, and is looking to do the same for their rivals, where he has already scored four goals in 11 league matches.
