Proteas name tried and tested squad ahead of England visit

The first Proteas squad since the return of cricket was named on Friday afternoon, with Quinton de Kock set to lead the South Africans against 50-over world champions England, who arrive in the country in mid-November.

The two nations lock horns once more – having done so earlier in the year – in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20 Internationals (T20Is) in the coming weeks.

Two uncapped players in Proteas squad to face England

The selectors have opted for the tried and tested ahead of the tour, with spinner George Linde and seam bowler, Glenton Stuurman the only uncapped players in limited-overs internationals.

The Cobras all-rounder has represented South Africa at Test level when he was part of the squad that toured India in September 2019.

He is one of five spin-options in the 24-man squad named for both versions of the white-ball game, and will compete for a spot with the likes of Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj.

Stuurman, on the other hand, has a chance to earn his first national cap after impressive performances for the Warriors.

Notable omissions include top-order batsman Aiden Markram, whose last appearance for South Africa in coloured clothing was in the ill-fated 2019 Cricket World Cup campaign.

Another player not included is uncapped fast bowler Sisanda Magala, who has been part of the fold for the past year.

Former skipper Faf du Plessis is back in the setup after sitting out the white-ball segment of the last home summer, while his Titans teammate Junior Dala also makes a return, following a brief spell in the wilderness.
