Bulls all but confirm signing of Marcell Coetzee in Christmas day Tweet

The Bulls have suggested they are close to bringing Springbok flank Marcell Coetzee back to South African rugby.

In a Christmas day Tweet, the Bulls made not-so-subtle reference to the signing using an image of Coetzee turning out for the Boks with his face obscured by a ‘Christmas present’.

It didn’t take very long at all for fans and pundits to pick up on exactly who was headed to Loftus.

Coetzee burst onto the scene with the Sharks in 2011, coming up through the ranks at the Durban-based team.

He earned the attention of the national team with his physical carrying game and tremendous ball-skills.

Coetzee expored life beyond South African rugby with a short stint with Honda Heat in Japan in the 2015/16 Top League season before returning to the Sharks.

Later in 2016, Coetzee made the move away from South Africa by signing with Ulster, temporarily putting his Springbok career on ice.

The removal of the overseas-based player cap-limit opened the doors for Coetzee to return to the Green and Gold in 2018 but a move to the Bulls would strengthen his position.
