COVID-19: When PSL fans can expect to return to stadiums revealed

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has provided some insight into when football fans can expect to return to Stadiums following the COVID-19 enforced spectator ban.

The last time a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match witnessed spectators was all the way back in March 2020 before play was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Spectators have not been allowed to attend games since the league’s resumption in August.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has since explained that a return to stadia for football fans remains unlikely until an effective vaccine is made available to the public while the rising number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa will make the return all the more complicated.

We’ll have to see once a COVID-19 vaccine arrives – Jordaan

“This is an uncertain period and I cannot tell you that from this day onwards football fans will be back inside the stadiums‚” Dr. Danny Jordaan told TimesLive.

“But the only thing that we can ask is let us observe the regulations and the rules because the next month or two are going to be extremely tough for all of us as South Africans. If we comply and we do the things that are required of us‚ we may see us getting to grips with this Covid-19.

“At the moment‚ if you read on what is happening‚ I don’t think that fans will be able to go to stadiums. We’ll have to wait and see over the next two months‚ hope there will be a decline in the number of infections and that the vaccine will be available. Maybe then we will see some return to normal life and possibly fans returning to the stadiums.”

South Africa is currently facing a steep incline in COVID-19 cases and members of the public are urged to strictly follow all of the protocols set in place by authorities throughout the upcoming festive period.
