Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has a message for fans over festive period

The 2020/21 DStv Premiership season is currently on a break – which is perhaps not the worst news for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and their coach Gavin Hunt.

IT’S BEEN A TOUGH START FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

It’s been a tough opening eight matches to the season for Amakhosi who find themselves down in a lowly 13th position in the standings (out of 16 teams).

Chiefs have managed to pick up just seven points via a single victory, four draws and three defeats.

Most worrying for Gavin Hunt and Amakhosi’s supporters has been the fact the team has only scored seven goals while conceding 11.

Contrast those stats with log-leaders Mamelodi who have scored 16 while leaking just five.

Chiefs will get their league campaign back under way against bottom side Maritzburg United on Saturday, January 9 at the FNB Stadium.

Kick-off is at 18:00.

GAVIN HUNT’S MEN WILL NEXT BE IN ACTION ON JANUARY 5

Prior to that, Chiefs will play the second leg of their Last 32 CAF Champions League fixture away against Angolan side Primeiro De Agosto on Tuesday, January 5.

That match at the Estádio 11 de Novembro near Luanda will kick off at 17:00. The first leg finished in a 0-0 stalemate.

Ahead of their return to action, Hunt has shared a message to all football supporters over the festive period, urging them to stay safe over the holidays

“Well, I would just like to wish all the supporters, if anyone is travelling or going anywhere you need to be safe and avoid big crowds.

“I know it is the festive time but it’s so unnatural what is happening but it is what it is and we all have to adhere to the rules of the country and try and come back safe and sound in a couple of days time. God Bless to everybody,” Gavin Hunt said.

Kaizer Chiefs chairperson Kaizer Motaung also took the opportunity to wish Amakhosi and all their fans a blessed festive period.
