Mamelodi Sundowns release promising young winger

Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed to release 24-year-old winger Katlego Otladisa bringing to seven the number of players who have been allowed to leave Chloorkop this season.

In his two seasons at Sundowns, former Platinum Stars man Otladisa has struggled for gametime and the club believe it is in his best interests to seek pastures new, with the player believed to have asked to be let go.

Mamelodi Sundowns release Otladisa

Otladisa has spent most of his time at Sundowns either not playing or being sent out on loan and with the club so well stocked in his best positions a breakthrough now appears unlikely.

The players agent Eddie Pienaar has welcomed the release but would not comment on whether Otladisa had any suitors at this time.

“It is for the better. He is 24-years-old and he should be playing. All 40 players at Sundowns are established internationals on big packages and must be playing,” Pienaar told Soccer Laduma.

“We don’t have a lot of pacey wingers in SA and with his quality, so it was always strange that he didn’t play at Sundowns,” added Pienaar.

“But I would like to thank Mr Yogesh Singh (legal manager and senior official) for the professionalism and clearing Katlego.”

Time for him to move on

Otladisa was part of the Ajax Cape Town outfit that came close to winning promotion last term after yet another loan spell. It is not clear if the now renamed Cape Town Spurs will be after his signature.

He is free to join any club that will have him as free agents can still be snapped up even though the PSL transfer window slammed shut this week.

Otladisa, who is comfortable playing on either wing, is a former junior international but has found his career meandering into the wilderness. He will surely hope that he can turn things around in a new environment.

Sundowns have sent half a dozen players out on loan this term but it seems Otladisa was not keen on another spell away from his parent club and has chosen a fresh start.

Otladisa has proven a resilient character in the past, coming back from a broken leg to earn the attention of Sundowns.

“There was a time when I had a broken leg. What kept me going was my love for football and my dream to achieve a lot more things,” Otladisa had said about his trials.
