Pitso Mosimane writes his name into record books

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hasn’t taken long to enter the record books at his new role in Egypt.

Mosimane became just the third manager in CAF Champions League history to lift the title with two different clubs after his triumph last Friday with Al Ahly.

Mosimane steered Al Ahly to their a record-extending ninth title with Magdy Afsha’s 88th-minute strike securing the 2-1 victory in was dubbed the ‘Derby of the Century’ against bitter rivals Zamalek.

Amr El Suluya had given Al Ahly, the Egyptian Premier League champions, a sixth-minute lead before Zamalek’s Shikabala’s strike in the 31st minute set up the thrilling second half.

ONLY TWO OTHERS HAVE ACHIEVED THE FEAT

The win ensured Mosimane wrote his name into the history books as he joined Argentine Oscar Fullone (ASEC Mimosas and Raja Casablanca) and Egypt’s Mahmoud El Gohary (Al Ahly and Zamalek) as the only three coaches to have tasted victory with two different clubs.

Mosimane, now 56, previously won the title in the 2016/17 season with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mosimane is now chasing an incredible sixth trophy for the 2019/20 season.

Al Ahly take on Al Ittihad in the semi-finals of the Egyptian Cup on Tuesday evening at the New Suez Stadium.

To date, Mosimane has won the Absa Premiership, Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup, the Egyptian league and now the CAF Champions League.
