Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) interim board will continue to operate for another month – at the very least – Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa confirmed on Thursday.

The interim board, which was set up in October 2020, was tasked with fixing a series of administrative issues – among others – in South African cricket.

Mthethwa had originally given the interim board three months in which to do so.

However, it was only in November of last year than the CSA Members Council formally appointed the interim board, as required by their Articles of Incorporation.

On the basis of this one month delay, Minister Mthethwa has decided to extend the mid-January deadline by an additional month, to mid-February 2021.

In a statement on Thursday, Mthethwa said, “By all accounts and after some initial turbulence, the work of the Interim Board has gained favour among our country’s cricket lovers.

“Accordingly, I am confident that this extension will enable the Interim Board to produce a constructive and actionable report that contains the reforms required to help South African cricket realise their indubitable talent”.
