Currie Cup latest | Semi-final line-up confirmed

The Currie Cup semi-finals have been confirmed for this year’s tournament.

The tournament has sadly been much-affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic resulting in a number of matches being cancelled.

Most recently, Saturday’s clash at Newlands between Western Province and the Sharks was scrapped due to an outbreak of the virus in the KwaZulu-Natal side’s squad – not for the first time this season.

As a result, none of the remaining matches will have any impact on the final top four placings.

The Bulls will top the log and host the fourth-placed Lions at Loftus Versfeld, while in a quirk of fate, WP, who finished second in the standings, will welcome the Sharks to Newlands.

It remains to be seen whether or not those matches will go ahead, especially the one in the Cape.

SHARKS PLAYERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ISOLATE

The Sharks are due to isolate for at least 10 days, meaning those affected won’t be able to train ahead of the match.

No indication was given as to how many Sharks players tested positive for the virus.

Should the match at Newlands go ahead it could well be the final ever match played at the iconic stadium ahead of the team’s move to their new home, the Cape Town Stadium.

IF BULLS MAKE THE CURRIE CUP FINAL IT WILL BE IN PRETORIA

As group stage table-toppers, should the Bulls progress to the Currie Cup final, they will host the match at Loftus Versfeld regardless of which side wins the other semi-final.

At this stage the Currie Cup semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, 15 January and Saturday, 16 January.
