Kaizer Chiefs: Gavin Hunt takes a dig at Amakhosi management

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt has taken a subtle dig at the Amakhosi management over their recruitment policy.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently banned from making any new signings due to a contractual breach however according to Gavin Hunt, some of the signings Kaizer Chiefs made prior to their ban simply make no sense.

Hunt recently converted Kenyan midfielder Anthony Akumu to a defender and the former Bidvest Wits mentor believes that whoever signed the Kenyan as a midfielder at Kaizer Chiefs was bitterly confused.

Hunt takes a subtle dig at Kaizer Chiefs management

Anthony Akumu joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2019 from Zambian outfit Zesco United as a midfielder however Gavin Hunt believes his midfield skills are not up to the PSL’s standards. Akumu has since shifted to defence where Hunt believes is his best position.

“He’s not a midfield player‚ no chance. I don’t know what he was signed as but he’s definitely not a midfield player‚” Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt said.

“And he’s played the last three‚ four games at centre-back‚ because obviously we’ve got problems but he looks a lot more comfortable.

“He’s done well‚ I thought he was excellent in defence once again. And may long it continue. He’s not a midfielder, no chance.”

Akumu enjoying his new position

“I’ve adapted to playing wherever coach Gavin Hunt utilises me. Playing anywhere on the field is all about the belief that the coach and your teammates have in you.” Akumu said regarding his new role at Chiefs.

“So, I’m comfortable with being deployed in any position that I can play. I have played in many positions as a player, so it’s not a new thing for me at Kaizer Chiefs.

“Playing with ‘Rama’ and the other guys is good. Someone like Rama makes it easier because he communicates with me all the time and he’s experienced. It’s a good thing to be playing and winning.”

Kaizer Chiefs are next in action on Saturday evening when they travel to Stellenbosch. The Amakhosi are up to seventh place on the DStv Premiership standings following their victory Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila this evening.
