Cape Town City coach Jan Olde Riekerink has praised Justin Shonga for his work-rate in the couple of days he has been training with the club.

However, the former Orlando Pirates striker, who was announced as a new signing for the Mother City side earlier in the week, is unavailable for Saturday’s mouth-watering home clash against Kaizer Chiefs as he waits for his registration to be cleared.

JUSTIN SHONGA UNAVAILABLE FOR CAPE TOWN CITY

“We have Shonga with the team but also not available for this game. So, that’s how we have to deal with it,” Riekerink told the media on Friday.

“He’s been with the team for only four days and it’s still very early to judge. But I saw him play and sometimes as a 10 but that’s not the position he will play with us. I think he is a striker and he can score goals. He is a very mobile player and I like mobile players very much.

“If we are to have our whole squad together we have a team that can play very good on the transition and he will be one of the guys that can contribute to the end game of the transition because he can score goals and I have seen that already in training. I’m very happy he has joined the team; he has a nice personality and he has the experience. I see he integrates very well in the group,” Riekerink added.

In further bad news for Cape Town City, Riekerink confirmed that Edmilson Dove, Aubrey Ngoma and Abbubaker Mobara are all out of the match injured, while Tashreeq Morris and Taariq Feilies are suspended.

THABO NODADA WELCOMED BACK

In some good however for fans of Cape Town City, Mpho Makola, Thabo Nodada and Craig Martin have all recovered from Covid-19 and will be available for selection for the match.

Kick-off at the Cape Town Stadium is at 17:00 on Saturday, 16 January.

Cape Town City are currently fifth in the DStv Premiership standings after 10 matches, while Kaizer Chiefs are down in 10th place, six points behind their rivals on Saturday.
