Percy Tau debuts as Brighton advance in FA Cup

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau made his debut for Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup on Sunday evening.

Brighton recalled the 26-year-old from his loan spell at Belgian giants Anderlecht last week.

PERCY TAU STARTED ON THE BENCH

Tau started on the bench in the Seagulls’ Round 3 tie away against Newport County at Rodney Parade, but with the top flight side struggling to find a breakthrough, the Bafana attacker came on for Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the 70th minute.

The Bafana attacker was a livewire for Brighton as he set up a good chance for Neil Maupauy in the 78th minute while he managed to force Newport goalkeeper Thomas King into a save minutes later.

Brighton were seconds away from winning the tie in regulation time after Solly March’s 90th minute goal, but Adam Webster’s own goal deep into stoppage time sent the game to extra-time.

The Premier League side would need penalties to overcome Newport 4-3 to secure their spot in the FA Cup fourth round.

The draw for the FA Cup fourth round will take place on Monday, 11 January at 21:10 SA time.

Tau and Brighton will next be in action on Wednesday, 13 January in an English Premier League clash against heavyweights Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Kick-off is at 20:00 SA time.
