Brighton won 1-0 and thanks to the three points, moved up to 16th place in the standings as they continue they fight to avoid relegation.
After making his English Premier League debut against Manchester City in midweek, Tau started from the bench as Neal Maupay led the Seagulls in attack.
Maupay justified his inclusion as early as the 17th minute when he managed to get on the end of a square-ball from Alexis Mac Allister to tap into an empty net.
Brighton – and hopefully Percy Tau – will next be in action on Saturday, 23 January at home to Blackpool in a FA Cup fourth round clash.
Kick-off is at 17:00 SA time.
