Striker Samir Nurkovic identifies ‘the future of Kaizer Chiefs’

Kaizer Chiefs target man Samir Nurkovic has waxed lyrical over winger Nkosingiphile Ngcobo after the youngster’s stunning strike against TTM in midweek.

Ngcobo has embraced the opportunities granted to him under coach Gavin Hunt and has now been lauded by the Serbian hitman. The man from Pietermaritzburg has represented South Africa at under-20 level but looks to be making a case for senior honours and perhaps a trip to the Olympics with the Under-23s.

The future of Kaizer Chiefs

Speaking after the Glamour Boys swept aside Limpopo strugglers TTM 3-0 on Tuesday evening to record their third win on the bounce, Nurkovic hailed the 21-year-old as “the future of Kaizer Chiefs”.

Ngcobo’s strike gave Kaizer Chiefs control of the fixture before second half strikes from Happy Mashiane and Lebogang Manyama made sure they bagged three points in convincing fashion.

Nurkovic provided the ball to the winger after a throw-in seeing him take it on knock it over the approaching defender and volley home expertly. It was Ngcobo’s third Premiership goal for Kaizer Chiefs and by far his most memorable.

“It was a nice run from the little star,” Nurkovic told SuperSport.

“The little star is the future of Kaizer Chiefs. I saw him and I just flicked it on, and after that he did the rest. Amazing what he did there.”

The sensational goal was Ngcobo’s second in as many matches for Kaizer Chiefs after he found the back of the net in the club’s 2-1 win over Cape Town City.

Nurkovic delighted to be back

Nurkovic made a big impression in his first season in South African football last term before injury cut short his involvement and Kaizer Chiefs title tilt hit a speed wobble.

The Serbian is arguably the best footballer at the club but his only focus is helping the club climb the table.

“After three tough months for me of surgery and recovery, I’m really happy to be on the field again and to help the boys as much as possible,” Nurkovic added.

“I’m trying to help as much as possible the team to victories. Obviously, I’m upfront to score goals and to assist goals and to help them.”

The win leaves Kaizer Chiefs ten points off the pace set by league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi face Stellenbosch FC this weekend before a midweek engagement with Baroka FC but could be forgiven for having one eye on their 30 January Soweto Derby fixture.
