Tottenham vs Liverpool, England – Premier League, At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Time: 21:00

With their pride bruised following an FA Cup exit to bitter rivals Man Utd and a league record that reads just two wins from eight, there is no better time to face Liverpool, and Tottenham looks capable of putting another dent in the Reds’ title defence on Thursday evening.

A rotated Spurs XI warmed up for Thursday’s showpiece showdown with a 4-1 win at Wycombe in the FA Cup on Monday evening, and Jose Mourinho’s decision to shuffle his pack should ensure that his big guns are relatively fresh despite the short turnaround between games.

It’s time to bash the bookies and gradually recover all that you’ve lost to the bookies in the past. Spurs’ cup triumph at Adams Park pushed their unbeaten stretch to eight matches since late December – a run they are expected to continue against a low on confidence Liverpool outfit this week.

The 2020/21 campaign continues to deteriorate badly for Liverpool, and just days after their lengthy, proud unbeaten record at Anfield in the Premier League was ended in a shock reverse to Burnley, the Reds were dumped out of the FA Cup by traditional antagonists Man Utd.

Jurgen Klopp’s floundering champions have now won just once in their last seven assignments in all competitions, during a period where the Reds usually electric attacking play has been devoid of spark.

Liverpool failed to notch a single goal in any of their last four Premier League run-outs, while a solitary effort against WBA on December 27 remains their only successful strike in five matches overall.

With loose touches, errant passes, and shanked finishes plentiful, Liverpool has looked every inch a team lacking confidence in recent weeks, and a date with a robust, clinical Tottenham team on Thursday promises to worsen their plight.

Jose Mourinho tends to favour a risk-averse, counter-attacking strategy in Tottenham’s biggest games, and Spurs’ victories over Arsenal and Man City before Christmas highlighted just how effective that tactical blueprint can be.

That same set up almost earned Spurs a share of the spoils at Anfield on December 16, before Roberto Firmino’s dramatic late winner for Liverpool – though we think that result could be reversed this time around.

Tottenham’s eight-match unbeaten streak means that the momentum is with the hosts, and dynamic duo Harry Kane and Son-Heung min will be ready to punish a Liverpool backline lacking fit defenders and clean sheets.

In addition, Liverpool has struggled badly on the road this term, winning just one of their last eight league tests away from Anfield, and a more confident Spurs look superb value in the double chance market this week against their fragile-looking visitors as a result.

Giovani Lo Celso is Tottenham’s only confirmed absentee, though there are fitness concerns over fullback duo Matt Doherty and Ben Davies.

Dele Alli could miss out altogether as speculation about a move to PSG starts to intensify. Elsewhere, Joe Rodon is in contention to start at centre-half, though Jose Mourinho could choose to go with Toby Alderweireld’s experience.

Jurgen Klopp remains without quartet Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, and Naby Keita, who are all sidelined with an injury.

The German will hope to have Jordan Henderson back in the fold, however, while Joel Matip is expected to return to the Reds’ defence. Our prediction is Over 1.5 Goals.
