Al Ahly vs. Vita Club: Pitso’s Al Ahly Secure Huge Win In CAF Champions League

Pitso’s Al Ahly secured a huge win and took a bigger step towards the knockout stages of the CAF Champions League after defeating Vita Club on Tuesday.

The defending champions manage to put their ugly start into the campaign after losing 1-0 to Simba SC and drawing 2-2 at home against Vita Club to secure a crucial 3-0 win against the Congolese giants in the reverse fixture.

Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring, finishing past Vita’s goalkeeper Omossola Medjo from a tight angle after being played in by Marwan Mohsen in the sixth minute.

Mohamed Magdy Afsha through a set-piece made it 2-0 from a long-range shot for the visitors 20 minutes into the game.

Al Ahly’s goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shenawy ensured Pitso side enter the break with their two-goal lead after pushing a great strike on the post just before the half-time mark.

The hosts had a chance to pull one back at the 50th minutes but Luzolo Sita’s shot was denied by the woodwork.

Al Ahly dominated and controlled much of the rest of the game and preventing Vita Club from setting up more strong goalscoring opportunities.

They made it 3-0 when Taher Mohamed was superbly set up by Walter Bwalya and the former made no mistake in putting the ball past the goalkeeper.

The result means Pitso Mosimane’s men now have seven points, three more than Vita Club with two games to spare. And Al Ahly is now in the second spot, three points behind Simba, who beat Al Merrikh 3-0 in the other Group A fixture.

The win is a big one for Al Ahly and could once again secure their ticket to the knockout stages of the competition, in fact, a victory in their next fixture at Merrikh could see them proceed to the knockout stage.
