Bafana’s bid to qualify for next year's AFCON becomes difficult after Sudan beat São Tomé and Príncipe

Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki and his technical team now face a tough task against Ghana in their bid to qualify for the next AFCON in Cameroon next year.

South Africa’s bid to qualify for the continent finest tournament in Africa in Cameroon next year has just taken what seems to be a difficult twist after group rivals Sudan beat São Tomé and Príncipe 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Bafana-Bafana was standing second place behind Ghana before they regulated to the third spot by the Sudanese‚ and they now have to win their match against the Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday at FNB Stadium‚ the same team that beat them in the corresponding fixture in the first round.

Ghana match is a must-win for Molefi Ntseki’s side. If they drop point against Ghana on Thursday‚ the trip to Khartoum would suddenly become a lot trickier than they originally imagined as they would need to draw or win against Sudan on Sunday to ensure qualification.

Sudan stands a higher chance of qualifying following their 2-0 against São Tomé and Príncipe giving them a boost on goal difference. But Bafana-Bafana can turn things around with a win against the black stars on Thursday.
