What has been a lengthy PSL season officially comes to an end on Saturday night as Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns fight it out in the Nedbank Cup final at Orlando Stadium.

It’s a chance for the men from the Free State to clinch their first time since winning the League Cup in 2012, while their opponents are looking to complete a domestic treble.

Bloemfontein Celtic vs Mamelodi Sundowns: head to head

Overcoming the Tshwane giants will require that Celtic go against recent history, having not beaten them in the last four years.

Phunya Sele Sele looked to be on their way to causing an upset in the MTN8 last year as they led Sundowns 1-0 from the hour mark, only to end up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

In the league, the Brazilians clinched the double – winning 2-1 home and away.

Nedbank Cup team news

The successful campaign has come at a price for Sundowns, who spent the week leading up to the Nedbank Cup final nursing a number of injuries.

Captain Hlompho Kekana and South American pair, Ricardo Nascimento and Gaston Sirino all started the final league match against Black Leopards, but set out training sessions in the lead up to Saturday.

Other players who are doubtful for the clash are goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who did not feature in the latter stages of the league campaign, while defender Mosa Lebusa missed the last two matches.

Midfielder Andile Jali did not make the matchday squad for the game against Lidoda Duvha, and is another doubt for the Nedbank Cup final.

Meanwhile, Sundowns have an incentive to complete the treble, with the R7 million prize money set to be shared among the players.
