Conor McGregor has vigorously denied accusations of misconduct after he was interviewed by police on the island of Corsica.

Reports emerged on Saturday 12 September that McGregor had been arrested after a complaint alleging that the MMA star had exposed himself and attempted to sexually assault an unidentified complainant.

Conor McGregor refutes allegations

McGregor was in Corsica preparing for 180km trip on water bikes with former South Africa Olympian and wife of Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, in aid of water safety awareness.

That trip now hangs in the balance after the complaint laid against McGregor.

Corsican police confirmed that a hearing was held and McGregor later released following the accusations.

“Following a complaint filed on 10 September in which events that could be classified as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition were denounced, Mr. Conor Anthony McGregor was the subject of a hearing by the gendarmerie services, in custody police.” the Bastia prosecutor’s office told AFP.

The Notorious released

McGregor maintains his innocence but it remains to be seen whether police will take further action against the former UFC Champion.

“Conor McGregor vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct. He has been interviewed and released,” a spokesperson for McGregor said.

Dana White won’t be drawn on Conor McGregor

UFC president Dana White says he hasn’t spoken to McGregor since the former lightweight and featherweight champion found himself back in the headlines.

White has teased a return to the octagon for a fighter that remains one of the biggest draws in combat sports.

The UFC boss was asked about the McGregor situation at the UFC on ESPN+ 35 post-fight news conference.

White would not comment on the incident, saying he has no more information than anyone else on the subject.

The UFC supremo said he would offer assistance to McGregor should the Irishman ask for it.

“Whether you’re retired or not retired you can get yourself into trouble,” White told reporters, in quotes carried by MMA Junkie

“I don’t know enough about the Conor situation. I don’t know about it. I know what you’ve read. I’ve read the same things. Conor is retired, I haven’t talked to him. I’m sure he doesn’t need my help or advice, but if he did he can call.”

The Notorious announced his retirement from UFC earlier this year. It was the fourth time McGregor has quit the sport and few believe that he will actually stay away from the octagon for good.
