Middendorp geared up for ‘must-win’ clash against Wits

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has labelled his side’s next fixture as a “must win” encounter, following the disappointment of the defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in their last outing.

The Glamour Boys lock horns with Bidvest Wits at FNB Stadium, going into the clash level on points with the reigning league champions at the top of the standings.

Kaizer Chiefs put defeat behind them

Speaking to the official Kaizer Chiefs website, the German mentor says the midweek defeat is now water under the bridge.

We are playing a team that is doing well in the bio bubble,” Middendorp said. “The loss to Sundowns on Thursday is water under the bridge, but we have many positives to take out from that match.”

Chiefs will be boosted by the return of striker Samir Nurkovic, who is now available after serving a one-match ban.

“We will have Samir Nurković returning from a one match ban,” Middendorp added. “He will give us options insofar as our attack is concerned.”

Chiefs’ opponents are yet to suffer defeat since the PSL restart, with four draws and a single win in their five league matches.

Wits are coming off a draw in their last fixture, where Bloemfontein Celtic salvaged a point after going behind early in the contest.

Middendorp says he is expecting a touch challenge from the 2016/17 league champions.

“Wits are very solid, and they have good players in their squad,” adds Middendorp.

“They have not lost a match in the bio bubble. “They have quality players like Thulani Hlatshwayo and Thabang Monare who are very good in their positions. They will be a handful, but I think we are prepared to do well against them today. It is a must-win for us.”
