Sports

Whether it be a birthday or anniversary 25 years in anyone’s life is usually a huge celebration, and it is no different in the case of Triple H.

Paul Levesque aka Triple H celebrates his 25th anniversary with WWE, having been with the brand since 1995.

Beginning his WWE career as the Connecticut Blue Blood Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Levesque has mastered the art of reinvention enjoying a number of notable evolutions.

Where can you watch the Triple H special?

This September, WWE DSTV Channel 128 brings viewers a journey through the superstar’s 25 years with WWE on WWE Originals Specials – 25 Years of Triple H: The Game Changing Matches

Viewers can watch the matches that crowned him The King of Kings, including the “End of an Era” Hell in a Cell Match against Undertaker, a Ladder Match against The Rock and my personal favourite a WWE Championship Street Fight against Cactus Jack.

The end of an era

One particular match that Levesque says he will never forget took place at WrestleMania 28 in April 2012 which he described as real and emotional.

It was named ‘The End of an Era,’ because as legends of the 2000s, Triple H and The Undertaker were making way for new superstars.

Shawn Michaels was the special guest referee, and the match began with the two men delivering many strikes to each other and Triple H gaining the upper hand on The Undertaker.

After receiving numerous blows from ‘Taker’ including a Tombstone attack, the Deadman’s signature move, he kicked out on two which left his opponent in shock.

In the last 13 minutes of the match, Triple H hit The Undertaker with the Pedigree, but The Phenom kicked out as the referee’s hand was coming down for the count of three. Triple H would eventually succumb to another Tombstone giving Undertaker yet another memorable WrestleMania win.

 The Game changer

Another match featured on the show is The Game’s match against The Great One in 1998 at SummerSlam.

This was not Rocky Maivia against “The Connecticut Blueblood,” it was Triple H vs The Rock. This is viewed as arguably one of the greatest ladder matches of all-time and one of the best fights of both men’s careers. HHH was only 28 years old while The Rock was 26. It was contested for WWFIntercontinental Championship Ladder and began with Triple H on the offensive.

The Game took The Rock to down with a hard clothesline and climbed into him with mounted strikes before catching the Great One with a facebuster. The Rock came back and the result was one of the great pieces of sports entertainment and produced the iconic image of a victorious Triple H atop the ladder holding the famous belt.

Triple H is now an occasional in-ring performer who has won a number of championships. He is deeply involved with WWE NXT, the company’s third brand.

He is a five-time Intercontinental Champion, a three-time world tag team champion, two-time European Champion, and a fourteen-time world champion, making him the company’s seventh Triple Crown Champion and second Grand Slam Champion.

Catch the show on Monday 21 September at 08:40 and WWE NXT, every Wednesday (Thursday mornings in South Africa) on DSTV Channel 128.
