TS Sporting midfielder Katlego Mojela collapses at training and dies

National First Division club TS Sporting have confirmed the sudden death of midfielder Katlego Mojela.

Mojela reportedly collapsed at training on Friday after complaining of dizziness and could not be resuscitated.

Mojela passes away after collapsing at training

The club issued a statement confirming his passing on Saturday 26 September.

“TS Sporting Football Club would like to confirm the untimely passing away of our footballer Mr Katlego Mojela, also known as ‘KG’, who sadly passed away after complaining of dizziness on 25 September 2020.

“KG joined TS Sporting at the beginning of the 2019/20 season after being scouted at the 20129 ABC Motsepe League play-offs in Cape Town. He played 27 games in his first season and scored four goals which helped the team qualify for the Nedbank Cup last eight.

“KG was a dedicated member of the team and always willing to go the extra mile. His sudden passing leaves a huge hole in the TS Sporting family. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to KG’s family, friends and teammates.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this difficult time. The details of KG’s funeral are yet to finalised. TS Sporting is in communication with his family in this regard.”

Mojela was a graduate of a Nedbank Ke Yona Team in 2015, but joined Sporting at the start of the 2019-20 season after being scouted in the third-tier play-offs.

Condolences sent by prominent football bodies

The midfielder from Daveyton in Gauteng was just 28-years-old.

The Council of Southern Africa Football associations also expressed their condolences.

“The COSAFA family would like to extend our sincere condolences to the loved ones and friends of TS Sporting forward Katlego Mojela, who passed away suddenly,” a statement from the body read.

The Premier Soccer League added their voice to those expressing sadness at the tragic passing of a young footballer.

“We are saddened by the news of the passing of TS Sporting FC player, Katlego Mojela,” a social media post from the league reads.

“Deepest condolences to TS Sporting Football Club, the Mojela family and the football community at large.”
