Kaizer Chiefs look to bounce back from the past weekend’s humiliation as they travel to the Eastern Cape for a clash against Chippa United on Tuesday night.
Amakhosi had a rude awakening the opening weekend of the new PSL season, losing 3-0 to reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Chippa United vs Kaizer Chiefs: PSL preview
With a short turnaround time of just three days, Gavin Hunt’s men have to dust themselves up in search of their first points of the campaign.
They come up against a side that got off their mark in their opener, thanks to Augustine Kwem’s second-half equaliser away to Cape Town City.
The strike from the Nigerian striker ensured that the Chilli Boys walk away from the Mother City with a point, and they will be looking to build on that against Amakhosi, who delivered a lacklustre performance on their backyard.
Previous meetings
Kaizer Chiefs will have happy memories of their last visit to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, where they registered a 2-0 victory via a brace from Dumisani Zuma.
Their next encounter saw the Soweto giants completing the league double with a 1-0 win at home.
It’s even Stevens in terms of head-to-head results between the two sides, with each club sitting on five wins since the Chilli Boys’ ascent into the top flight.
Chippa United vs Kaizer Chiefs: Team news
Since the start of the season, which began with a cup game earlier in the month, Kaizer Chiefs have fielded veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.
The experienced shot-stopper had a nightmarish outing against Sundowns, and could return to the bench, where he spent much of last season.
This is after the return of Nigerian international Daniel Akpeyi from injury, which was confirmed by Hunt.
“He (Akpeyi) is available for selection after recovering from injury and his passport renewal is also sorted. It is always good to have competition in the areas of the team.”
