Eight South African players who found new clubs in Europe

The summer transfer window came to an end in Europe, with many players finding new homes during the ten weeks of intense activity in the market.

The period also saw some South African player making moves to Europe, with some moving within the continent.

We take a look at the top transfers, involving SA’s best, which took place during the window.

Siyanda Xulu: Maritzburg United to Hapoel Tel Aviv

The Bafana defender is back in Europe, having plied his trade there in the early stages of his career.

Xulu made the move from Maritzburg United to Israeli outfit Hapoel Tel Aviv before the end of the last PSL season.

Percy Tau: Brighton and Hove Albion to RSC Anderlecht (loan) 

Percy Tau is in his third consecutive loan spell since joining English outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star joined RSC Anderlecht after turning out for rivals, Club Brugge.

Bongani Zungu: Amiens SC to Rangers (loan)

Another South African player to secure a loan spell is midfielder Bongani Zungu, who signed for Scottish giants Rangers for a season-long loan with an option to buy.

At his new club, the Bafana star will link up with legendary former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard, who manages the club.

 “I really want the fans to be proud of my performances and will always give 100 per-cent for my new team. Rangers is a global club and I know there are already many supporters across Africa,” Zungu said.

Luther Singh: SC Braga to Paços de Ferreira (loan)

Bafana rising star Luther Singh is also set for another spell away from Portuguese outfit SC Braga, who loaned him out to top-flight side Paços de Ferreira.

Lyle Foster: AS Monaco to Vitoria de Guimaraes 

After an exciting move to French giants AS Monaco, former Orlando Pirates striker Lyle Foster completed a transfer to Vitoria de Guimaraes early in the transfer window.

Thibang Phete – Famalicao to Belenenses

Before his maiden Bafana call-up, defender Thibang Phete earned a permanent move to Belenenses after spending the previous campaign there on loan.

Dean Furman – free agent to Carlisle United

Furman’s stint as a free agent – following his Supersport United exit – was a brief one, as he linked up with English League Two outfit Carlisle United.

Dino Visser – free agent to Port Vale

Another South African in England’s lower leagues is former Bloemfontein Celtic goalkeeper Dino Visser, who joined Port Vale after his release from Crewe Alexander.
