Wing Ederies Arendse will make his 100th appearance for Griquas in Saturday’s Super Rugby Unlocked match against the Stormers in Kimberley.
Arendse has turned out for Griquas since making the move to Kimberley from his native Cape Town in 2014, to date he has scored 46 tries in all competitions for the team.
Burger to take over Griquas captaincy
Scrumhalf Zak Burger will assume the captaincy with regular skipper George Whitehead benched for the visit of the Stormers.
Former Junior Springbok flyhalf Tinus de Beer is drafted into the starting line-up in Whitehead’s place.
Eduan Keyter comes in off the wing and will play at outside centre from the start against the Stormers, while well-travelled Springbok Bjorn Basson makes his return to a Griquas jersey on the left wing.
Keyter is part of a reshuffled Griquas midfield, where he will link up with Johnathan Francke. Harlon Klaasen and André Swarts are rotated out although the former is on the bench.
Basson back for now
Basson is in Kimberley for a good time but not a long time as he will leave the Union to join Major League Rugby side San Diego Legion in 2021.
The only change in the starting pack is at loosehead prop, where Mox Mxoli gets the starting nod over Andrew Beerwinkel, who moves to the bench.
The Kimberley team lost their previous match 61-31 at home to theLions and will be determined to bounce back with a much better performance against the Stormers, who also lost their match in round four against the Bulls in Pretoria in a match cut short by a thunderstorm.
A reminder that no fans are permitted to enter stadiums during the Super Rugby Unlocked series.
