Banyana Banyana got into their groove in their second match of the Cosafa Women’s Championship, where they thumped neighbours, Eswatini 4-0 at Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday.
Without many of their regulars, the defending champions got off to a stuttering start in their first match against Angola, where they battled to score more than two goals, despite what was a dominant display.
South Africa thrash eSwatini
There wasnt much of a struggle this time around, with the opening goal coming shortly after kick-off.
It came through the boot of Nomvula Kgaole, who put his side ahead with just two minutes on the clock.
There would be a longer wait for the second goal, which came in the 38th minute through Sibulele Holweni, who sent Banyana into the break with a two-goal cushion.
Just as was the case after kick-off in the first half, the second 45 began with a goal from the host nation, with midfielder Gabriella Salgado extending the lead to just one minute after the restart.
The fourth came just 13 minutes later, with Kgaole netting her second of the match.
With a more than healthy four-goal cushion, Banyana controlled proceedings, but without making further change to the scoreline.
This was until moments from the final whistle, where another brace was registered on the scoreboard, as Salgado bagged her second to make it 5-0.
South Africa play their final group match against Comoros, whom they beat 17-0 in the previous edition of the tournament.
