Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has emerged as a candidate for the vacant coaching position at Maritzburg United.
The Team of Choice are currently without a head coach having parted ways with Eric Tinkler on Monday following a winless 0-4 start to the 2020/21 season.
Delron Buckley has since taken over training sessions at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit and is set to lead the team when they take on SuperSport United in their next DStv Premiership clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.
Middendorp is now reportedly being considered for another stint as coach as the management team looks to turn around the club’s fortunes.
“Middendorp is among the coaches earmarked by the club because he understands the culture and is familiar with the set-up and environment at Maritzburg United,” according to the KickOff.com website.
“The club is expected to announce their new man before Friday.”
Middendorp is currently in charge of Saint George SC in Ethiopia following his departure from Kaizer Chiefs at the end of last season.
Middendorp has an extensive coaching CV having twice held the top job at Kaizer Chiefs (2005-2007 and 2018-2020).
He previously coached Maritzburg United on three separate occasions, and has also held coaching roles at Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Free State Stars and Chippa United.
Kick-off in Friday’s Maritzburg United v SuperSport United match is at 20:00.
