The Birds triumphed 1-0 thanks to an 86th-minute winner from Joseph Mhlongo at the Dobsonville Stadium to condemn Chiefs to their second loss of the season.

Chiefs have managed just three goals in their opening five matches this season – one of which was an own-goal.

The defeat was Amakhosi’s second of their campaign along with an opening day 3-0 thrashing by defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs have managed two draws and a single victory to date.

Gavin Hunt’s men remained in 11th-place in the standings with five points having played one more match than the teams below them in the standings.

For their fellow Soweto rivals, Swallows, life back in the top-flight is progressing a lot better.

The win moved the Dube Birds into top spot in the log on 11 points after three victories and two draws.

Following their CAF commitments in the coming weeks, Chiefs will next be in league action on Tuesday, December 8 against Black Leopards.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

Meanwhile, Swallows will next face Golden Arrows on Saturday, December 5 at 15:30.
