Moroka Swallows vs Kaizer Chiefs: PSL preview and kick-off time

The first league Soweto Derby of the season takes place on Tuesday night with Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows renewing rivalries at Dobsonville Stadium.

The clash is the first meeting between the two sides since the hosts were relegated from the top flight in 2015, a drop which triggered an unprecedented spiral where they quickly found themselves in the third tier of South African football.

Now back in the top flight, they have begun their season well, and are one of the three unbeaten teams in the league so far, along with pre-season title favourites, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

The Dube Birds lie in second place, having registered two wins and as many draws in their four matches.

They briefly occupied top spot over the weekend, following their goalless draw against TS Galaxy.

At the same time, their opponents continued to struggle as they also played out to a draw away to Golden Arrows.

However, Gavin Hunt’s men got a monkey off their backs, as they registered the first goals scored by a Kaizer Chiefs player in their campaign, with Leonardo Castro bagging a brace in the thrilling 2-2 draw.

The former Swallows mentor – who returns to familiar surroundings albeit on the opposite dugout – was not pleased with the performance, but has admitted that it was a plus that they managed to enter the scoresheet.

“We obviously wanted something better but that is something we must work on,” Hunt is quoted on the Kaizer Chiefs website.

“We must do better in our defence. We scored two goals and had more chances to win the match.”

In the last meeting between these two sides, Chiefs were on their way to being crowned champions, while Swallows almost had their fate sealed in what was a horrendous season for them.

On that occasion, Amakhosi won 3-0 in Dobsonville, following a 1-1 draw in their previous encounter.
